So, Doc keeps mentioning coal enhancers. I'm like a kid before Christmas: I wanna know! What exactly are coal enhancers, and how are they used. What materials are commonly used?Thanks!Coyo~

Dry, balled up mugwort leaves work very well, as does the fiberous interior of our local yucca (Y. whippeli).Tom

Like Tom said...Here in SoCa...mugwort is the ticket..and it was used as an extender/carrier by the indins...Pack into a a hollow shaft ...place your coal in one end..and walk..with the coal facing...

I think Haines has something on his web site about making something similar to this but instead of a hollow tube it's a wrap something akin to making a cigar,but ya' don't smoke it.

And something else I should add. The best slow match in our area, is the female flower head of Cattail (Typha spp.) A six inch flower head will smoulder for about 2 hours (if it's not too windy).Also...
